Notice of Annual General Meeting

Playing Fields, Planning, Accounts, Membership, Roads, Local Authority reorganisation consultation, Soper Wildlife Reserve and Digswell Archive.

In recent developments that the DRA have been involved in procuring for the village are the new entry sign from the west along Hertford Road and the village sign near the start of Harmer Green Lane. These have been in partnership with the Welwyn Parish Council and Siemens the railway engineering company.

Soper Wildlife Sanctuary
The DRA has been successful in persuading the RSPB to offer the transfer of a long lease to the Welwyn Parish Council for the Wildlife Sanctuary in Harmer Green Lane, to be used for the benefit of the Community.  We are continuing to press for the legal work to be completed and we seek ideas from local residents about the future use of the site

Road Works
We work with the local council and councillors and have been  able to arrange the resurfacing of Station Road. This to repair the damage it had incurred over recent years.
Residents are often inconvienced by the repeated road works taking place in Digswell, so a DRA committee team have made representations to the County Council about improvements that could be made to reduced delays. Also funding has been agreed to place another ‘Smiley Face’ (Speed Indicator Device) in New Road.

Local Planning
Many residents have concerns about the develoment of housing in the village. The DRA committee  have worked with the Welwyn Parish Council to develop a new ‘Neighbourhood Plan’. 
It requires planners and developers to take into account the wishes of local residents. A referendum was held alongside the May elections and the result (Yes: 3206, No: 428 
on a 50.2% turnout) was for adoption of the plan. The plan can be seen on the Welwyn Parish Council web site.
 
Recently the DRA planning team were able to present acceptable reasons to stop an unsuitable planning application in New Road. The team constantly monitor local planning applications.
